Annnnnddddd we're back....
About two years ago a decision was made to take a break from Bumpy Pitch. It needed to rest. Maybe I needed a break. So much noise had popped up in this space and I honestly wasn't sure what to make of it all. When we launched Bumpy Pitch, we did so because it was important to us to dive into the culture and lifestyle of soccer and present it back in a new format. As something that transcended the athletic part of the sport. Something that spoke to our deep love of the game and the way in which we viewed it.
And it worked.
Ten years after launching, there were countless brands in the space and the lifestyle of the sport was clearly established. The interest in the culture of the sport was huge and it continues to grow and break into new places and spaces.
It was also about this time that I felt Bumpy Pitch needed to breathe a bit. So many companies were doing similar products and sharing similar stories that it felt like a pause was needed. So we took a break.
In all honesty, I didn't know where that break would lead. I didn't know if bringing Bumpy Pitch back would ever happen. But I knew that break was needed. This company that we had poured our hearts and souls into bowed out and we started watching things from the sideline.
And then something happened. Just as 2018 felt like a time to take a break, about half way through 2020, new inspiration took hold, a desire to pick things up surfaced and a return seemed like something that had to be done.
2020 has been a tough year. That goes without saying. And in some of those really tough times, soccer, as it has often does, has helped me. And even though we've been watching games on TV with no fans, and we've been unable to go see a game in person or even play pickup with our friends, I have reconnected with the simple joy the game provides.
I think it is easy to forget that sometimes. But the real joy is in the simple things that soccer has always provided.
As Bumpy Pitch returns, it is those simple joys that the sport provides that will drive so much of what we do.
It's been a long road to get to this point. It's certainly been a bumpy ride (pun intended). But we're back and although we have to start over in many ways, it feels like we're doing the right thing for the right reasons.
We know that many of your rode with us from the beginning of this journey, and we hope you will ride with us again for the next part of this adventure.
I promise everything that we do is done out of pure love for the game, love for the culture and a love of trying to make the best products and experiences we can.
