It's been 20 years since Nike first launched the Mercurial boot, and in that time, the silhouette has gone on to become one of the most iconic boots in the sport. Each and every World Cup cycle, Nike has dropped a special version for the World Cup. There have been some stunning World Cup versions, and you can see that lineage in the image above.
To celebrate 20 years, Nike is bringing back each of these color options but combined with a contemporary 360 innovation, meaning they are transformed into the modernised innovative Mercurial boot Nike superstars wear today.
Boots include Ronaldo’s famous 1998 World Cup Mercurial boot, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2010 purple Mercurial Vapor Superfly II and 2014 Mercurial Superfly IV. All styles are available in both Vapor and Superfly silhouette.
In addition to the boots, Nike is also offering up Air Max 270 versions in color ways that correspond to the boots. This is an incredible move from the swoosh and will have people wanting for multiple pairs of the boots and sneakers.
I'm sure many of us share special moments from these World Cups, and these boots and sneakers can be a nice reminder of those moments.
