We've been working on something for awhile now that finally is ready to jump off. Over the past year or so we have been working on an idea with our family Kicks To The Pitch, Niky's Sports and adidas. The idea was to bring to life the most interesting and dynamic soccer league in Los Angeles (and hopefully beyond). The league was intended to be for people that love soccer but also that are pushing the boundaries in their own spaces. Creators and doers, people and brands that we respect.
This idea turned into a league thats called The Association and it finally kicks off Thursday April 26th.
The Association is a 5 v 5 league played in a warehouse just outside downtown LA. There are eight teams in the league that were born from some of our favorite brands with an LA presence. The teams and the first round matchups are:
In addition to great brands that are making up great teams, we have some amazing folks involved in the league. This select group of players were drafted by the teams last week (read more about that here) and will round out the rosters for each team. Those players and the teams that drafted them are:
Any great competition needs a great trophy. And we wanted to create the most unique and stylish trophy that represented the city of Los Angeles to the max. So we brought in legendary graffiti artist OG Slick to handle the design of the trophy. The trophy features his signature "LA" hands and it is a stunner of a trophy. Trust me when I say there is no other trophy in the world like this one. Check out the full story on the design process for this trophy.
In addition to the games taking place each night, we'll also have curated nights by each of the brands. The first night features SpaceX and mars City Designs and it is absolutely incredible what they are doing. Each night will also feature a unique poster, and you can see from the top image that this weeks poster is heavily influenced by SpaceX and Mars City. Geoff Gouveia created the art for this poster and he absolutely knocked it out of the park. Shouts to Geoff on this!
Game nights will also feature music from some of LA's best DJ's, some food and drinks and Niky's Sports will have their pop-up open so product will be available for purchase. Mando Fresko from Power 106 will be handling hosting duties and we'll have a couple of surprises each night as well.
Game nights are all ages and are open to the public.
